The quantity of official development assistance (ODA) is often a major determining factor in its effectiveness, but the quality of that finance also matters hugely.
Donor Tracker publishes summary of latest OECD donor spending on key global development sectors
In the beginning of June 2021, with the Generation Equality Forum to meet that month and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) approaching in the autumn, the Donor Tracker published a high-level summary of international donors' spending on key sectors, particularly on gender equality and the climate emergency.
The 'Donor updates in brief' publication assess 14 OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) donors’ development assistance policies, spending, and political efforts in tackling key global challenges.
Donor Tracker hosts webinar on China’s in international development cooperation.
Watch the Donor Tracker team's first foray into analyzing development finance beyond the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD's) Development Assistance Committee (DAC).
In May, Jing Cai of Development Reimagined joined the Donor Tracker’s Zoe Johnson and Raimund Zühr for a webinar discussion of current trends in China's policy and financing for global development cooperation.
Drawing on the findings of the Donor Tracker’s latest report on Chinese development funding and policy and Development Reimagined's longstanding expertise on the topic, the webinar addresses: How does China's approach to international development cooperation differ from OECD DAC donors? Just how big is China's role in financing international development and how does it compare to other providers of development finance? What key trends and issues in China's international development cooperation will be interesting to watch in the months and years ahead?
The Donor Tracker also published a report on this topic, detailing the latest update on China’s development finance and policy.
SEEK Development's Project Manager Raimund Zühr speaks to Deutsche Welle on COVAX
As COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out, vaccine access has not been distributed equally. In April 2021, SEEK Project Manager Raimund Zühr spoke to Deutsche Welle about the various logistical challenges faced by COVAX (the global vaccine initiative) in distributing vaccines and what international donors could do to support vaccine access.
Zühr pointed out that at the ‘One World Protected’ event (hosted by the US and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance) held right before the interview, governments and private sector partners pledged an additional US$400 million to COVAX. This brought pledges closer to the US$2.0 billion that COVAX needed to achieve its goal of delivering 1.8 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines for 92 lower-income countries in 2021. However, more funding and work is needed in order to provide vaccines to all and help end the pandemic more quickly.
