CGIAR, a global partnership in food security, required support with identifying the latest political development and financing targets in donor countries and developing an effective resource mobilization strategy so it could mobilize further donor funding towards its strategic priorities in agriculture and food security.
SEEK worked with CGIAR to research key trends in the agricultural funding space, including analyzing the impacts of COVID-19 on funding for agriculture. Building on this analysis, we supported CGIAR in developing its resource mobilization strategy, including by identifying new funding sources from sovereign donors and multilaterals, prioritizing donors for engagement, and defining funding asks for these potential donors. Based on the resource mobilization strategy, we developed detailed donor profiles and action plans for priority donors and supported with identifying new potential donors by profiling climate funds, emerging bilateral donors, international financial institutions, and philanthropies. We then continued our support with monthly intelligence briefings on specific bilateral donors through our country consultant network spanning across the largest 14 sovereign donors.
We supported CGIAR in designing a clear path to resource mobilization with a prioritized plan of action that was instrumental in enabling them advocate for increased funding. We helped with providing a solid evidence-base for staying updated on the latest developments in the climate-agriculture nexus and identifying key opportunities for engagement. Using this plan and evidence base, CGIAR was able to successfully raise US$1 billion in core funding at COP26 marking more than 50% increase in funding from US$650 million in their prior replenishment period.
